![]() ![]() Blimey that's old! Okay, so admittedly it's 5pm on a Friday and as such my brain isn't working on all cylinders but and there is scope for MacOS generation variation and individual setup here but. ![]() Figured I’d throw it out here on the off chance someone has a clue. However, if I recover them, I still have the problem of using the recovered files. I’m trying to make as few changes on the MacBook as possible to minimize edits to the hard drive in hopes some of the deleted Time Machine files can be recovered. They have an older version available for 10.7 Their support said turn off SIP, however I don’t see evidence that 10.7 is running SIP “Stellar Data Recovery” - I installed this but it won’t run. * “EaseUS” - they sent me a link to an old version, current version doesn’t support 10.7 I’m wondering if anyone has experience with any of these: There are a few out there of course most don’t support 10.7 anymore. I’ve started looking at file restoration utilities to recover the deleted files. Restoring the deleted files with a utility I’m assuming it’s a permission thing but can’t find any info on this when I search. So it seems individual files within the Time Machine container file can be moved but not the overall container file. I was able to drill into one of the Time Machine files, in the Trash, locate a single file and move that single file to an external drive without problem. This seems like a permission error but I can’t find any details around it other than to more aggressively force the Mac to empty the trash (not what I want to do). I tried dragging the files out of the Trash into a new folder on the Time Machine drive and on a different external drive. I tried simply dragging the backup files that hadn’t been fully deleted out of the Trash and back into the Time Machine folder they came from. Restoring the Time Machine backups back into Time Machine I still retained a few of the Time Machine backups in the Trash. I stopped the trash emptying but most of the files had been deleted. As I was “emptying” the trash, I realized I had deleted to many. I was cleaning up an old MacBook Pro and trashed files from the Time Machine backup that were many years old. The summary is I’m trying to find:ġ) how to move back a “Time Machine” backup file that was removed from the Time Machine drive.Ģ) a utility that may be able to restore deleted files and since I need older Mac OS X to download Mac OS X, I can't legally re-download Snow Leopard. Here’s a story of a major fail involving deleted files in macOS 10.7.5 (Lion). ![]() Unfortunately for me, the installation fails, so now I have an iMac with no Mac OS installed. This flash drive successfully booted, and I was able to wipe the old Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. So I copied it to my Linux computer, converted to an ISO, then used dd to put it on a flash drive. Unfortunately this file is too large to fit on a single-layer DVD (you need 5 GB of space). Since I wanted installation media to keep for later, I closed the installer and pulled out the DMG image. I downloaded it and it launched the installer. I was then able to download Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion, but only from the old Mac, the download does not show up under Purchases on newer Macs. ![]() It contained a code, which I redeemed in the App Store. I downloaded the PDF and unlocked it with the password. A few days later I was delivered two E-mails, a password-protected PDF file in one, and a password in the other. I purchased Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion and received and E-mail that I would be receiving the item in future E-mails. Thanks to everyone for posting their answers. ![]()
